Help shape the region’s public art scene

Help shape the region’s public art scene

2 September 2021

Southern Downs Regional Council is inviting art-loving community members to play a pivotal role in shaping public art across the Southern Downs by joining the Public Art Reference Group (PARG).

No longer confined to indoors spaces, art is flowing boldly into our streets and onto our buildings and Council is seeking ten community members invested in strategically guiding the vision and framework of the region’s public domain.

A Council spokesperson said that the reference group would be a collection of creative and enthusiastic minds, dedicated to taking the region’s energetic public art scene to the next level.

“In enriching our built and natural environments, the region’s art scene has fast become a major draw card, reflecting our culture and heritage and enhancing the visitor experience across the Southern Downs,” the spokesperson said.

“Council is committed to growing and capitalising on this emerging market and is now calling on the local arts community and interested residents to step forward and play a role in arts and cultural development in their region.”

Council’s vision is to improve both the visitor and community experience through the enhancement of public art and the reference group will provide Council with strategic guidance and recommendations for public art projects, activities and events that will be unique to the Southern Downs.

PARG membership will be based on balanced community representation and representatives who have relevant industry experience.
