$230,000 in event funding up for grabs

18 March 2021

Event organisers can share in up to $230,000 of funding, with Round Two of the Southern Downs Regional Council Local Events Funding Program now open.

Events being held on the Southern Downs can boost their marketing or other components of their event through the program.

Round Two is currently open for applications for events set to be staged between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022.

In Round One of the program, Council awarded over $150,000 in funding to ten event organisers, including the Warwick Caledonian Society which hosted its 150th Scottish Celebration and Pipe Band Muster in early March.

Alexander Manfield, Chieftain of the Warwick Caledonian Society said the Local Events Funding was instrumental in helping them deliver a successful event to 1500 attendees, and encouraged other event organisers to apply for Round Two.

“Look at how your event benefits the region, its businesses and tourism. Use the resources available on the Southern Downs Regional Council and Tourism and Events Queensland websites to help put your application together,” Mr Manfield said.

Mr Manfield said without the funding their event would have been much smaller and would not have attracted the out of town contingent.

Southern Downs Regional Councillor Marco Gliori said the program is helping to reinvigorate the Southern Downs events industry.

“The positive economic impact and sense of local pride that a successful event brings to our region is significant,” Cr Gliori said.

“Every event on the Southern Downs means jobs for venue workers, caterers, photographers, cleaners and opportunities for our businesses.

“I encourage anyone with an idea for an event that attracts visitors to our region to apply for round two of this program.”

Applications for Round Two of the Local Events Funding Program close on 25 April 2021.

The Local Events Funding Program (LEFP) is a temporary funding program facilitated by Southern Downs Regional Council and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments as a component of the 2019 Queensland Bushfires Community Recovery Package under Category C of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
