Worm Farm Workshop – Tues 13th Nov – Warwick Library
November 13, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Southern Downs residents to learn new composting and worm farming tips with free workshop
Southern Downs Regional Council is offering residents across the Southern Downs a FREE Composting and Worm Farming workshop to help reduce the region’s waste footprint.
Residents interested in learning simple steps to reduce their waste can attend the waste education workshop at the Warwick Library on Tuesday, 13 November.
Results from the 2016 Waste Assessment of Southern Downs showed that on average Southern Downs households produce nearly 19kg of waste per week.
Around 17 per cent of material put into household rubbish bins residents can recycle instead, and around 55 per cent of organic waste put into rubbish bins residents can turn into fertiliser or compost.
Councillor for Agriculture, Environment and Sustainability, Cameron Gow, said residents can make simple and easy choices every day to avoid, reduce and reuse waste items at the shops and at home.
“The Composting and Worm Farming Workshop will help residents with reducing, reusing and recycling at home and building backyard composting or worm farming systems,” Cr Gow said.
“These simple steps will help reduce our region’s impact on the environment and help sustain our region for future generations.”
The workshop will run from 5:30pm to 7:00pm with SDRC providing light refreshments, and one lucky workshop participant will win a worm farm or compost bin.
Residents interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to register as participant numbers are limited.
For more information or to register for the workshop, please contact SDRC’s Waste Education Team on 07 3457 2400 or email SDRWasteEd@envirocom.com.au.
