Centenary Re-enactment of Egg Throwing Incident

The Southern Downs Steam Railway will host a re-enactment of the famous 1917 Egg Throwing Incident at Warwick Railway Station that led to the formation of the Australian Federal Police.
The Re-enactment (entry by gold coin) 1:00pm
The scene will be set in the station forecourt with the 11th Light Horse, Warwick Troop, Michael Bradford’s heavy horses and carts, and vintage cars and motorcycles. Station decorated with bunting and flags.
Event starts on the station platform at 1.00 pm with welcome by Mayor Tracy Dobie, and entertainment by Warwick City band, Brisbane Combined Unions Choir, and reading of patriotic poetry.
Prime Minister William Hughes and party arrive on steam train at 2.00 pm. He leaves the train and mounts a dais to deliver his speech promoting conscription to raise additional troops to serve in the first World War. An egg will be thrown, a police officer will decline PM Hughes request to arrest the miscre-ant, and the speech is completed. PM re-boards the train to continue his journey at 2.30 pm, vowing to form his own Commonwealth Police Force.
There will be seating and standing room for spectators on the platform. Come along in period costume and be part of the action!
Barbecue 11:00am to 4:00pm
Warwick Sunrise Rotary will hold a barbecue under the loading canopy adjacent to the Good Shed with quality steak/salad burgers and cold drinks.
Goods Shed Display 10:00am – 4:00pm
Step back in time and view railway memorabilia and photographs. Includes a display by Queensland Rail historian, Greg Hallam.
The Dinner From 6.30pm
$30 per person with entry by pre-paid ticket. Bookings 4661 9788. In the evening, Southern Downs Steam Railway will hold a dinner in the historic sandstone Goods Shed, adjacent to the Station. Drinks and nibbles from 6.30 pm, and sit down two course dinner from 7.00 pm. Bar, soft drinks, tea/coffee. Live Country/Rock Music.
