Council is currently planning a major event for Youth Week for 13, 14 and 15 April 2019 which is an initiative of our Youth Council, and despite ongoing promotion of the call for listings from the community through several email networks, the SDRC Facebook Page & website, the Southern Downs Youth Facebook Page and media release, we have only received two other Youth Week event listings … So, I think you’d agree that the response to date has been very poor and if we don’t get sufficient listings, we won’t be able to produce a calendar.

This is where YOU come in. You could help turn this around by encouraging your sporting or community clubs, groups, associations, orgs, schools or local businesses to hold an event, activity or perhaps a workshop for young people during Youth Week. This is a great opportunity to showcase your club or group and potentially attract new members or even volunteers.  But you need to act fast to get the details in to Council by the February 22nd deadline.

The event listing form is available, along with further details, on Council’s website https://www.sdrc.qld.gov.au/living-here/youth/youth-events.

Queensland Youth Week (QYW), to be held from 3 to 14 April 2019, is an annual celebration allowing us all to reflect on young people aged 12 to 25 and the positive contributions they make to Queensland communities. The theme for 2019 is ‘unlimited’ – celebrating the boundless energy young people bring to our communities and encouraging them to look to the future and see limitless possibilities.

Please do consider how you could support Youth Week for young people in the Southern Downs region.
