Capture your kid’s excitement on bin collection day and win a once-in-a-life-time visit!

Want to win a visit from Sort-It Sally and Council’s waste collection truck to your home? A new video/photo competition by Southern Downs Regional Council is offering just that to one lucky household!
While it’s a weekly routine to place bins kerb side, bin collection day is a much anticipated highlight for some kids. The thrill of the big Cleanaway truck with its bright safety lights and beeps, cruising down the street, effortlessly lifting the wheelie bin off the ground with its Transformer-like arms and dumping the contents into its huge back-bin has a huge WOW factor. And Council wants parents to capture their kids’ excitement watching a ‘real-life-movie-in-motion’ these school holidays.
Regional waste warrior, Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said he looks forward the seeing the competition entries roll in, just like the waste trucks.
“The region’s young and inquisitive minds are our biggest advocates for sustainable waste practices and are leading the way towards a cleaner waste-friendly environment,” Mayor Pennisi said.
“Our waste mascot Sort-It Sally is a rock star in the waste arena and she is hugely popular as the ambassador for our waste education program.
“I’m sure the opportunity to have her personally visit one lucky winner’s home will have kids and families snapping and filming away during the school holidays.”
Video and photo entries must be received between Monday 20 September and 5pm Friday 1 October and must be snapped or filmed within Southern Downs local government area.
For the safety of the community, Council reminds participants to watch and film entries from the recommended distance of 5m from the waste collection truck and the wheelie bin during collection, including in front and behind the vehicle. Children must be supervised at all times.
The winning entry will be awarded on merit as decided by Council. Waste warrior judges will be looking for entries that reflect the spirit of the Southern Downs, its community and waste minimisation.
