3 UPCOMING GRANTS ON OFFER TO COMMUNITY GROUPS
This month we bring you a few possible funding opportunities for local not-for-profit groups that you may not have applied for, that may be able to assist with project funding or tailored specific events for members of the community. We encourage reading of our community groups guide to funding HERE and of course, to seek other available sources as this is by no means a complete list.
1. SENIORS WEEK
Simply, it’s about connecting with folk of all ages and backgrounds, dispelling the stereotypes associated with ageing, and assisting to reduce social isolation. Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland receives funding from the Queensland Government to collaboratively plan, run and subsidise events and activities.
Funded by the Queensland Government, the program provides $100,000 to subsidise events and activities held during the week. Eligible applicants can apply for up to $1,000.
Of the 870 events held last year, 115 were funded connecting over 26,000 people.

2. DROUGHT AFFECTED COMMUNITY FUNDING
Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN is seeking applications from individuals, organisations and/or community groups who are interested in hosting community-led well-being events in drought affected communities within the Darling Downs and West Moreton region.
The PHN has been granted funding under the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Empowering our Communities initiative to facilitate community-led projects to support mental health, social and emotional well-being and suicide prevention initiatives for people living in drought affected areas.
Up to $15,000 of funding is available per applicant to host their event/s, with the events needing to be hosted between 01 July 2019 and 30 of June 2020.
The events must be focused on fostering community social and emotional well-being and resilience, and may include:
- community events or workshops that promote resilience and reduce stigma associated with mental illness and accessing mental health and suicide prevention services; and/or
- complimentary and lifestyle interventions know to improve physical and mental health, that can be delivered in a group setting, such as exercise classes, relaxation and yoga classes, etc; and/or
- community education on topics such as managing stress, anxiety, depression and stigma.
Eligible drought affected communities within the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN region are those located in the following local government areas:
- Goondiwindi
- Southern Downs
- Western Downs (Including Taroom)
- Lockyer Valley
- Somerset (West Moreton HHS areas)
- Toowoomba
- Cherbourg
- South Burnett

3. Transition Assistance Funding
Organisations are invited to apply via an open process for Transition Assistance Funding to purchase tailored supports including business advice, professional services and software upgrades, which will assist to build the disability sector capacity and service provider readiness in the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
A funding pool of $5,600,000 (GST exclusive) is available for this round. Further rounds may be held in the future.
Eligible organisations may apply for Transition Assistance Funding of up to $20,000 (GST exclusive) to purchase tailored supports including business advice, professional services and software upgrades to assist in boosting capacity and capability as service providers.
The Transition Assistance Funding aims to assist organisations to:
- attract retain and optimise their workforce
- improve awareness of the opportunities and ability to enter/expand and collaborate in the disability sector
- develop skills and capabilities required to effectively operate in a competitive disability market
Applicants must complete the Readiness Assessment at //blcw.dss.gov.au/readiness before commencing the application form. Applicants will be provided with a unique identifier after completing the Readiness Assessment and will be required to include this in the application form.
