A CONFIDENCE-boosting fashion show is set to be the centrepiece of this year’s Disability Action Week.
The annual initiative runs from September 6-22 raising awareness for people living with disabilities.
Endeavour Foundation Stanthorpe is helping to organise a Past, Present and Future Fashion Parade with the support of Vinnies.
Stanthorpe Endeavour Learning and Lifestyle members have been busy preparing for the parade, being held on September 11 at Stanthorpe Learning and Lifestyle from about 10.45am.
Stanthorpe Endeavour Foundation support and operation manager Penny Mann says it will be a fun fashion event.
“It’s about the past, present and future, so the past will be some fun ’60s stuff and the future is all about what the Learning and Lifestyle customers have made for themselves.
“It’s just so awesome and they’ve been really, really getting into that one.
“We’ve got some lending clothes from Vinnies and they’ve been looking at the ones they want to wear.
“They started out making their own clothes last week and with the support of staff they’ve been pulling it together. It’s pretty out there but I won’t give away too many details.
“Doing this sort of thing is very important to them. It’s good for their confidence and they get to spend more time getting to know new people,” Ms Mann said.
As part of Disability Action Week, a disco is on tomorrow from 6pm at the International Club.
The Sharyn Rowen Memorial Walk will be on September 12 and Ian Gimm commemorative plaque unveiling on September 14.
