SUMMARY:Teach a Kid to Fish Day- Stanthorpe
DESCRIPTION:Casting a line a load of fun \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTANTHORPE Bluewater Fishing and Restocking Club treasurer Ernie Jones is excited Teach a Kid to Fish will make it to Stanthorpe again in January. \n“For the last at least four years\, we have done the Teach a Kid to Fish\,” Jones said. \nTwo members of the Queensland Amateur Fishing Club Association\, Pam and John Crone\, will come down to Quart Pot Creek to teach local kids more about fishing. \n“They’ll get taught the basics of fishing\, how to tie their knots\, how to put bait on hooks and use of various types of tackle\,” Jones said. \n“We try to explain to them the benefits of conservation\, how to protect the habitat that the fish are in and we think that fishing lays the groundwork for the family doing something together. It’s certainly a family activity. And usually the parents learn something as well.” \nAfter lunch\, participating kids will be “let loose on the creek”. \n“Last year was terrific because they actually caught about six little fish\, it was good fun. The kids get so excited\,” Jones laughed. \nHe said the benefits of learning how to fish laid in gaining a new life skill kids could utilise for the rest of their lives. \n“Anyone can go fishing\, whether it’s at the sea or in the bush\,” he said. \n“And it’s something that you can share with other people\, sit down and talk. It’s relaxing because there is no stress involved in fishing and it gets them away from hand-held objects and gets them outside.” \nThe event will take place during school holidays\, so if you would like to do something different these Christmas holidays sign up for a great day of fishing. \nThe free event is made available by funds from the State Government. \nREMINDER: Fishing in the streams is free. But if you wish to fish at Storm King Dam\, a licence is needed. \nOn Saturday\, January 13\, from 10am- 2.30pm at the Lions Park. The free event includes lunch and there will be giveaways. Limited numbers\, so register prior to the event with the application forms available in your Border Post in December. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Children have to be accompanied by an adult.
