SUMMARY:In Sight Exhibition - Warwick
DESCRIPTION:27 September to 3 November 2018 \nTuesday – Saturday 10 am – 4 pm\,   Closed Sunday and Monday \nOrange Wall Gallery\, 4+ Albion Street\, Warwick \nThe works in this exhibition are loaded with meaning and feature a broad range of techniques including drawing\, printmaking\, sculpture\, painting and photography. The true pleasure in the exhibition comes from the challenge of interpreting the symbolism and concepts behind the works. \nOne of the most interesting works in the exhibition is a lenticular image by year 12 art student Prisca Albendia. These artworks change appearance and meaning when viewed from different angles. Prisca has explored the public’s perception of youth in her work and challenges us to look beyond our generalised attitudes to youth to see their potential. \nThe exhibition title “In Sight” was decided by the students themselves who also participated in the creation of promotional images\, labels and the exhibition catalogue.

SUMMARY:Broadway favourites to entertain at the gallery - Stanthorpe
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 28 \nstarts at 2pm\,  Entry is $10 per person. \n\nSTANTHORPE Regional Art Gallery welcomes The Savoyard Singers back to Music in the Gallery on Sunday\, October 28\, for what will be a wonderfully entertaining afternoon of music. \nThis year the group’s performance is titled Broadway in the Gallery and\, as the title would suggest\, you can expect a wonderful selection of songs from Broadway musical productions spanning a wide period from the 1930s and onwards. \nThe program comprises music from some of the best loved and most popular musicals of the 20th century and includes songs from South Pacific and Oklahoma through to West Side Story\, Beauty and the Beast as well as a host of others. \nMany of us came to love these songs and their stories from the films and cast recordings which followed the stage productions and these media enabled the music and the stories to reach a wider audience. \nIt’s not so many years ago that households had only one TV (if that) and the regular form of entertainment was a good old sing around the piano with the newly released sheet music from popular musical shows. \nSeveral members of the Savoyards are seasoned Stanthorpe visitors\, with mezzo soprano Mary Ewing\, tenors Ross Muirhead and John Hills\, and bassist Mark Craig returning to entertain. \nThey will be joined by soprano Kim Kee and all will be expertly accompanied by Jye Burton. \nArtistic director Phyll Griffin has again linked story lines and themes to create a seamless program which is sure to delight. \nThe Savoyard Singers are celebrating their 20th year of making music across Brisbane and the south-east of Queensland\, entertaining all those who enjoy the melodies that embellish our lives with tunes that never grow old. \nThis is always a most enjoyable afternoon in the annual Music in the Gallery calendar. \nMusic in the Gallery starts at 2pm on Sunday\, October 28. Entry is $10 per person. \nBIT OF BROADWAY \nWhen: Sunday\, October 28\, from 2pm \nWhere: Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery\, Weeroona Park \nWhat: Broadway in the Gallery with The Savoyard Singers \nCost: $10 per person

DESCRIPTION:Southern Downs residents to learn new composting and worm farming tips with free workshop\nSouthern Downs Regional Council is offering residents across the Southern Downs a FREE Composting and Worm Farming workshop to help reduce the region’s waste footprint. \nResidents interested in learning simple steps to reduce their waste can attend the waste education workshop at the Warwick Library on Tuesday\, 13 November. \nResults from the 2016 Waste Assessment of Southern Downs showed that on average Southern Downs households produce nearly 19kg of waste per week. \nAround 17 per cent of material put into household rubbish bins residents can recycle instead\, and around 55 per cent of organic waste put into rubbish bins residents can turn into fertiliser or compost. \nCouncillor for Agriculture\, Environment and Sustainability\, Cameron Gow\, said residents can make simple and easy choices every day to avoid\, reduce and reuse waste items at the shops and at home. \n“The Composting and Worm Farming Workshop will help residents with reducing\, reusing and recycling at home and building backyard composting or worm farming systems\,” Cr Gow said. \n“These simple steps will help reduce our region’s impact on the environment and help sustain our region for future generations.” \nThe workshop will run from 5:30pm to 7:00pm with SDRC providing light refreshments\, and one lucky workshop participant will win a worm farm or compost bin. \nResidents interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to register as participant numbers are limited. \nFor more information or to register for the workshop\, please contact SDRC’s Waste Education Team on 07 3457 2400 or email SDRWasteEd@envirocom.com.au. \nTo keep up to date with all the workshops SDRC offers or the latest news from around the region\, visit SDRC’s website at www.sdrc.qld.gov.au or follow us on our Facebook page.
