DESCRIPTION:20 – 29  April     Location Across the Southern Downs \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Southern Downs Heritage Festival celebrates the history of the Southern Downs as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival Queensland. The theme this year is “My Culture\, My Story”. Warwick was the first free settlement in Queensland and the whole area was opened up by Patrick Leslie and his two brothers George and Walter Leslie. The Assmanhausen Winery of the mid 1800s at Sandy Creek was a great exporter of German style wines to England and countries of Europe up until WW2. \nThere are 25 community groups from across the Southern Downs participating. Some activities are free while some have a small entry fee and there is usually something of interest for all members of the family. There are over 30 events held over the 10 days. \nHighlights of the Festival include bullock team demonstrations\, St Marks Anglican Church with its beautiful stained glass windows celebrates its 150th birthday\, and The Rodeo Heritage Centre hosts a bull ride suitable for the whole family. DESCRIPTION:Ballandean will be having their Anzac twilight service on Wednesday the 25th of April at the pyramid. \nAs usual the kids from Ballandean state school will be reading stories and singing songs. We have Jenni playing bugle John and Lisa Vichi playing bagpipes. There will be food and bar available. And as usual the $500 dollars raised will be donated to soldier on. \nThe service starts at 5 o’clock but get there a little earlier to grab a spot chairs are supplied but if you have one bring as it’s hard to predict the numbers. \nWe’ve mowed a spot inside the fence for some parking for those that have mobility issues. There will be a fire to sit around and enjoy and remember our fallen. Hope too see you there

DESCRIPTION:Warwick to Goondiwindi and Toobeah 3 Day tour\n5th – 7th May \nOur Train will depart Warwick Station at 08:00am for a leisurely steam train trip to Goondiwindi. \nWe will arrive in Inglewood at 11:15am for a lunch stop whilst the locomotive is serviced in preparation for the 2nd leg of the journey. \nTrain departure from Inglewood is at 12:45pm for our run into Goondiwindi\, arriving at 2:45pm. \nYou will be staying in Goondiwindi for Saturday and Sunday nights\, with Sunday being a day to have time to enjoy the local attractions and enjoy a trip to Toobeah on the train. DESCRIPTION:The Event\n\nOpera In the Vineyard is a charity event held on the first weekend in May each year in the spectacular vineyards of Ballandean Estate Wines.  The event is one of South East Queensland’s premier cultural events\, and the jewel of the Granite Belt’s social calendar. Opera in the Vineyard attracts up to 1800 people each year providing an intoxicating mix of music\, wine\, food and an unforgettable time.  The event organisers Ballandean Estate Wines and the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe have donated almost a million dollars to charity since the events inception. \nGetting There\n\n Shuttle Buses are the best way to attend the opera and are $20 return\, although ample car parking is available adjacent to the winery. \nThe Bus Routes are as follows:\nFrom Stanthorpe (Route 1) – All along main street starting from Top of the Town Caravan Park. Following highway through Severnlea and Glen Aplin and Ballandean.\nFrom Stanthorpe (Route 2) – From Stanthorpe via Eukey Road to Ballandean. Also along Mt Tully Road.\nFrom Warwick – All motels along highway starting from Post Office/Warwick Centre. There is no return bus after the Dinner.\nFrom Ballandean – Cottages on Eukey Road and Jacobsen Road.  Along Pyramids Road to Girraween National Park Rangers Station.\nFrom Tenterfield – All motels along highway from southernmost motel. SUMMARY:Warwick Pentathrun
DESCRIPTION:The Warwick Pentathrun is a full weekend event held at the end of May each year. It comprises of 5 races each of which is a different “type” of race that together mean a competitor has completed a Marathon Distance over the weekend in five different events. We start with a 1/2 marathon Saturday morning followed by a breakfast and a bus back to the start (YES it is one of the rare race events where you get to run somewhere and not just in a circuit)\, then after a short rest we have a 4.6km cross country. The Saturday concludes with a 5km flat road race and followed by presentations at the Sandy Creek Hotel. Sunday sees an early start for a 10km hill climb finishing again with a free breakfast and the weekend concludes with a 1500 meter “sprint” race in the main street of Warwick. \nCheck the facebook page for start locations and race details \nFor more details see “THE RACE” tab above.
