Jobs and Training Expo connects locals with employment

As the Southern Downs emerges post-COVID-19, stimulating the region’s economy and connecting the employment market with local businesses and training opportunities is a key priority for the Southern Downs Regional Council.

The Southern Downs Region is bouncing back better and the region’s key industries are seeking skilled workers in the areas of retail, government, food processing, tourism, transport and more.

During Queensland Small Business Month, Council is hosting two jobs and training expos that aim to align local workers with employment opportunities and training networks.

The free events in Warwick and Stanthorpe will explore career opportunities and facilitate a direct audience between the region’s job seekers and local business.

Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said the expos were suited to both potential employers looking to fill vacancies and potential employees seeking jobs, training, upskilling and career opportunities.

“Right across the Southern Downs, business operators are telling me they are looking for good people with the right skill set to be part of their team,” Mayor Pennisi said.

“The Job and Training Expos are a one-stop shop for practical employment advice and will directly connect local businesses with genuine job seekers and provide a platform for meaningful and productive conversations surrounding employment, training and upskilling options.”

Employers, registered training organisations, employment service providers, community organisations and local government are invited to be part of the expos by having a display at the events. Employers can also promote and advertise current job vacancies on the Jobs Board posted at the expos.

Job seekers are encouraged to attend the free event in either Stanthorpe or Warwick to gain valuable insights into training and career opportunities in Southern Downs.
